4. After the yesEngagement portraits in the loggia and the gardens, along the Lovers' Walk, in the lanes of the village and on the boat, with gentle direction that keeps everything natural.
5. The celebrationChampagne by the lake, then lunch, an aperitivo or a candlelit dinner at a restaurant chosen in advance, as the last chapter of the day.

• Villa Monastero: the proposal capital of Lake Como. According to Il Giorno, the villa hosted 79 marriage proposals in 2024. Its loggia, marble balustrades, fountains and long terraces sit right on the water, facing Bellagio and the mountains. The villa is open to visitors, so others share the gardens with you, and professional photography must be arranged in advance: I take care of it.
• The Lovers' Walk: the Passeggiata degli Innamorati follows the water from the ferry landing towards the village, a romantic walk before or after the question.
• The lanes of the village: stone stairways, pastel facades and hidden corners for portraits after the yes.
• Castello di Vezio: the medieval tower above Varenna, with one of the widest views of the lake.
• A private boat: the most private place of all, with the colourful houses of Varenna behind you.

The Best Time to Propose in Varenna

Varenna is on the eastern shore of the lake, so it keeps the warm evening light longer than the western shore. The late afternoon and the hour before sunset are the most beautiful times for a proposal and for portraits.

In summer, the Lovers' Walk and the lanes are crowded at midday. Choose the early morning, when the village is empty and the lake is still, or the evening, when the day visitors have gone. The most beautiful months are May, June, September and October. In winter, many gardens close, but Varenna's quiet lanes and the lake feel almost private.

Can we book a short proposal session instead of the full day?

Yes. If you would like a short proposal session in Varenna rather than the full-day experience, with the proposal and engagement portraits right after the yes, sessions start from €1,000 per hour. Write to me with your date.

Is Villa Monastero included?

Yes. I arrange the professional photography permit with the villa in advance. The villa is open to visitors, so others may share the gardens with you; for complete privacy, the question can also happen on the boat or at a villa setting reserved for you.

Yes. My husband and I photograph and film the day together, and you receive a 3-minute cinematic highlight film of your Varenna proposal.

How many photographs do we receive?

Around 300 edited photographs in high resolution, delivered in a private online gallery: the proposal, your portraits, the ring, the flowers, the villa, the boat and the celebration.

Is Varenna a good place to propose?
