Castello di Vezio is a medieval watchtower on the hill above Varenna, with one of the widest views of Lake Como: all three branches, Bellagio and the mountains. It is the most dramatic place to propose on the lake, and one of the few where I can style the moment with flowers and candles, by arrangement with the castle. I plan the day with you, then photograph and film it together with my husband. You arrive with the ring. The rest is planned.

Every day is planned around your story, the season and the light. A typical day looks like this:

1. Before the day · The planningThe idea, the cover story, the timing, the flowers and candles arranged with the castle, the boat, the transfer and the restaurant. Your partner never hears from me.
2. 2 hours · A private boat on the lakeVarenna, the villas and the open lake from the water, with Castello di Vezio waiting on the hill above.
3. Up to the castleA private transfer can take you up to the castle, so you arrive relaxed and ready. If you prefer, you can also walk up from Varenna.
4. The proposalFlowers and candles already in place, the lake opening below you and the golden light on the water. We photograph and film from a discreet distance.
5. Aperitivo and photoshoot at the castleChampagne and an aperitivo above the lake, then a photoshoot on the castle walls, the terrace and the viewpoints as the sun goes down.
6. The celebrationDinner at a restaurant chosen in advance, as the last chapter of the day.

The Best Time to Propose at Castello di Vezio

The hour before sunset is the most beautiful: the castle is quiet, the light is soft and golden, and Varenna, on the eastern shore, keeps the warm evening light longer than the western shore. In June, for example, the boat can leave at 5 pm, the proposal can happen at the castle at 7:30, the aperitivo and the photoshoot follow in the golden light, and dinner begins after the sunset at 9:15.

The most beautiful months are May, June, September and October. I build the final timing with you once your date is set.

Are flowers and candles allowed at the castle?

Yes, by arrangement with the castle. I organise the setup in advance, so it is ready when you arrive.

How do we get to the castle?

A private transfer can be arranged to take you up to the castle, so you arrive relaxed and ready. You can also walk up from Varenna along a steep path; in that case, wear comfortable shoes and change at the top.

Is a private boat included?

Yes. The day begins with two hours on a private boat, before the castle.

When is the castle open?

Daily from March to early November, and on weekends in good weather in winter. I confirm the opening hours for your date when we plan.

Is video included?

Yes. My husband and I photograph and film the day together, and you receive a 3-minute cinematic highlight film of your proposal.

How many photographs do we receive?

Around 300 edited photographs in high resolution, delivered in a private online gallery: the boat, the proposal, your portraits, the ring, the flowers, the castle and the celebration.

What should we wear?

Something elegant for the castle and the dinner. With the private transfer, you can wear your favourite shoes; if you walk up, bring comfortable shoes and change at the top.

What happens if it rains?

We adjust the timing, the route or the place: a better light window, covered corners or a different boat plan, so the day stays as beautiful as plan A.
